“Somehow, elements of the media… are portraying [Occupy Wall Street] as a legitimate movement.
It’s really important for us not to give any legitimacy to these people in the streets… I remember what happened in the 1960s when the left-wing took to the streets and somehow the media glorified them and it ended up shaping policy. We can’t allow that to happen.” - House Homeland Security Chairman, Peter King
I’ve never been happier to read something so ignorant.
This fucked-up half-witted corrupt remark made by King a month ago seems to foreshadow all the OWS raids nationwide, including last night’s Zuccotti Park raid - which resulted in not only the usual violent force, but the destruction of over 5,500 books as well.
It also reminds me of South Park..
Cartman is one of the best characters. He’s that character that personifies the ego, hypocrisy, immaturity, gluttony and greed in all of us. He’s the consistent hilarious example of what NOT to do and be.
Peter King is a real life non-hilarious version of Cartman. Am I horrified that this man is not only a government official, but a government official in charge of something - and that something is The House Committee of Homeland Security? Horrified doesn’t begin to explain it.
But..I am glad to see that Real-Life-Cartman was scared enough of the Occupy Movement to actually address it as a threat to status quo. I’m also happy to at least be able to comprehend how A leads to B (A = Real-Life-Cartman’s bullshit statement. B = repeated Occupy raids, including last night’s Occupy NYC raid, which the media was barred from).
The movement is experiencing governmental resistance - like all Legitimate Movements do.
And, much like previous legitimate movement makers, Occupiers are not a strictly reactionary breed.
Occupy is about more than being out of work.
We are visionaries. We are Creators. Calling out the Cartmans on Wall Street and Capitol Hill, until they realize they’re not that cool, go home and cry to their stuffed animals* is our Occupation.
